Tennis Elbow
Tennis Elbow is a condition causing pain on the outside part of your elbow. It results from overuse or repeated action of the muscles responsible for straightening the wrist, fingers, or similar activities. Tennis elbow surgery aims to alleviate chronic pain and discomfort associated with non-remitting symptoms despite a trial of non-operative measures. By releasing the diseased muscles from their bony attachment and debriding the inflamed tissues, surgery can provide significant pain relief, allowing individuals to resume their daily activities without constant discomfort.

What to expect at the time of your surgery:
During the procedure, which is typically performed on an outpatient basis, the surgeon makes a small incision on the outside of the elbow. They then identify the damaged tendon, usually the extensor carpi radialis brevis tendon, and remove any degenerative or scar tissue. In some cases, the surgeon may also perform a tendon repair or reattachment if there is a significant tear or detachment. After the surgery, the incision is closed, and the arm may be placed in a splint or brace to immobilise the elbow and facilitate healing. Rehabilitation exercises, such as gentle stretching and strengthening exercises, are usually recommended to gradually regain strength and flexibility in the forearm muscles.
Tennis Elbow Recovery:
Surgery may lead to a faster recovery in some cases, as it directly addresses the source of the problem. It can allow individuals to return to their regular activities sooner, particularly those involving repetitive arm motions. You will be reviewed and looked after until the wound is completely healed. Scars should fade and flatten anywhere from three months to one year after surgery.

Tennis elbow surgery, also known as lateral epicondylitis surgery, is a procedure performed to treat severe or chronic cases of tennis elbow. It involves the removal of damaged or degenerated tissue in the tendons of the forearm muscles near the elbow.
Recovery time varies depending on the individual and the extent of the surgery. Generally, patients can expect to wear a splint or brace for 4-6 weeks following surgery, and physical therapy may be recommended to regain strength and range of motion. Most individuals can resume normal activities within a few weeks to a few months.
Tennis elbow surgery is generally considered to be effective in relieving pain and improving function in the majority of cases. Success rates vary, but studies have shown a high rate of patient satisfaction and improvement following surgery.
