Fingernail Removal

The treatment occurs when a medical condition or indication calls for nail removal. Treating ailments including ingrown nails, persistent infections, trauma or injury to the nail, nail anomalies, or diagnostic purposes like a nail biopsy frequently involves the removal of the fingernail.

What to expect at the time of your surgery:

The finger or toe will be cleaned before the procedure. While you are awake, the surgery is performed under local anaesthesia. The affected nail on a finger or toe will be the site of the anaesthetic injection. It is called a digital ring block. After the area has become numb, either the nail will be removed or a sample of tissue from a portion of the nail unit will be collected for a biopsy. The incision will be sealed by pressing the edges together or by covering the affected area with a skin flap. The wound will be covered with a thick dressing.

What to expect after your surgery:

Instructions for post-procedure care are given to patients; these instructions may include cleaning the region, changing dressings, and taking any recommended medications. Depending on the complexity of the treatment and the reason for the nail removal, there may be a variation in the recovery time. Healing frequently takes a few weeks or months.
