Steroid Joint Injection Preparation:

The patient is positioned comfortably, and the injection site is cleaned with an antiseptic solution.  In some cases, a local anesthetic may be administered to numb the area around the joint. This helps minimize discomfort during the injection.

Steroid Joint Injection Procedure:

Using a syringe and needle, the healthcare provider injects a mixture of corticosteroid medication and a local anesthetic into the joint. The medication usually consists of a synthetic steroid, such as triamcinolone or methylprednisolone, which has potent anti-inflammatory properties. After the injection, the patient may be advised to rest the joint and avoid strenuous activities for a short period. Ice packs or over-the-counter pain relievers may be recommended to manage any discomfort.
