What to expect at the time of your surgery:
Before the surgery, anaesthesia is administered to ensure the patient’s comfort. A tourniquet is usually applied to obtain a bloodless field to ensure satisfactory removal of the lesion without causing damage to the nearby tiny neurovascular structures. Depending on the type, location, and size of the tumour, incisions can be varied to serve the purpose. After the procedure, the incisions are closed with sutures or adhesive strips. Sterile dressings or bandages are applied to the incision site. The patient is typically monitored briefly before being discharged, and post-operative instructions for pain management, rehabilitation exercises, and recovery are provided.
What to expect after your surgery:
You will be provided with clear post-operative instructions, including pain management. A splint may be applied in certain cases for the initial few days. At two weeks, the sutures will be trimmed, and a wound check will be performed. Hand therapy is commenced as deemed appropriate.
