Frenuloplasty

Frenuloplasty is a surgical procedure to correct problems associated with the frenulum, the small fold of tissue that connects the foreskin to the underside of the penis. This procedure involves an incision to release or lengthen the frenulum, allowing for greater movement and flexibility.

What to expect at the time of your surgery:

Penile frenuloplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia. That is, only the surgical area is numbed.  Once the anesthesia has taken effect, the surgeon will make an incision in the frenulum to relieve tension and increase flexibility. The length of the incision depends on the severity of the frenulum (short frenulum) and the desired outcome. After releasing the frenulum, the surgeon will use dissolvable sutures to close the incision. The sutures will naturally dissolve over time and will no longer need to be removed. The surgical site will be covered with a sterile bandage or dressing to protect the surgical site and control postoperative bleeding.

What to expect after your surgery:

After the procedure, the surgeon and aftercare assistant will give you instructions on how to care for the surgical site, including keeping it clean and dry and avoiding strenuous exercise. Recovery from penile frenuloplasty is usually relatively quick, with most people able to resume normal activities within a few days to a week. However, it is important to carefully follow your doctor’s postoperative instructions to ensure proper healing and minimize the risk of complications. The aftercare team will do regular follow-up calls to monitor your progress and healing.
