About Gynecomastia Treatment

Gynecomastia surgery, also known as male chest reduction, is designed to remove excess breast tissue in men, often caused by hormonal changes, weight gain, or genetics. This condition can lead to self-consciousness, making it difficult to wear fitted clothing or feel comfortable shirtless.
Through a combination of liposuction and glandular tissue removal, this procedure sculpts a flatter, firmer chest, enhancing overall body confidence. Many patients choose gynecomastia surgery to achieve a natural-looking, masculine chest contour.

- Boosted confidence – Helps patients feel more comfortable in fitted clothing and shirtless.
- Permanent results – Once the excess tissue is removed, it does not grow back in most cases.
- Minimally invasive techniques – Advanced liposuction and tissue removal ensure minimal scarring.
- Quick recovery – Most patients return to work within a few days and resume normal activities in weeks.
Gynecomastia Facts and Figures
- 1 in 3 men experience gynecomastia at some point in their lives.
- Common in adolescents due to hormonal changes but often resolves naturally.
- Affects men of all ages – Can persist or develop later in life due to weight gain, hormone fluctuations, or medication use.
- Surgery is the only permanent solution – Lifestyle changes can help in mild cases, but severe cases require surgical correction.
- High satisfaction rate – The vast majority of patients report improved self-esteem and body confidence post-surgery.
Gynecomastia Procedure
- Consultation – A detailed assessment is conducted to determine the severity and best treatment approach.
- Anaesthesia – The procedure is performed under local anaesthesia.
- Liposuction – Excess fat is removed using a small cannula to contour the chest.
- Glandular tissue removal – If necessary, the dense glandular tissue is surgically removed via a small incision.
- Skin tightening (if required) – For severe cases, excess skin may be adjusted for a smoother contour.
- Closure and Recovery – Stitches are placed, and a compression garment is worn to aid healing.

"I had Gynecomastia surgery with Signature Clinic, and although expensive, it was one of the best decisions of my life. The work they did and post surgery was as perfect as it could have been. I had heard horror stories of my surgery going wrong but everything was clear and understandable to recover with them. I would easily recommend Signature Clinic and i would go back if I needed anything in the future. Thank you."
"I had gynecomastia surgery at Signature Clinic and have to say from the initial consultation through to the aftercare I was very pleased. I had lots of information from the clinic and surgeon prior to surgery which put me at ease. Once the surgery was completed I had regular check up calls from the surgery to make sure the healing process was going well, I also sent photos over during the healing and always has a quick response from the clinic."

Gynecomastia FAQ
Can Gynecomastia be caused by anabolic steroids?
Indeed, males who use anabolic steroids may have increased breast tissue as a result of a sex hormone imbalance. Gynecomastia is one of the negative effects of using androgenic drugs or chemicals, such as androgenic steroids, prohormones, or even some prescription drugs.
Will there be any scarring after gynecomastia surgery?
What causes gynecomastia?
There is no single reason why a man might have enlarged breasts, but there are several lifestyle and genetic factors that are thought to contribute to the condition:
- Hormonal changes: fluctuations in sex hormones such as testosterone and estrogen can cause breasts to enlarge; this is common boys during puberty. In the majority of cases, puberty-related gynecomastia will subside as a young man matures.
- Drugs or alcohol: certain prescription medications, anabolic steroids and recreational drugs, including marijuana, have been linked to gynecomastia. Heavy alcohol use may also contribute to the condition.
- Genetic conditions: Klinefelter’s syndrome and other genetic disorders can cause hormonal imbalances that lead to enlarged male breasts
- Obesity: excess fat can accumulate in the chest, causing the breasts to grow
Weight loss may help reduce the appearance of male breasts that are largely composed of fatty tissue, but more often than not, gynecomastia in adult men cannot be completely eliminated without surgery. If an excess of glandular tissue has developed, no amount of diet or exercise can get rid of it.
Male Breast Reduction Surgery & Recovery
We perform Male Breast Reduction/Gynecomastia removal with Local Anaesthetic only depending on the patient and the extent of the procedure. Post-operative discomfort is typically minimal, and most men find it easily controllable with oral pain relievers. Recovery after male breast reduction also varies depending on the extent and type of procedure but is usually relatively quick. Many men are able to return to work 2 to 3 days after their procedures and are able to resume their fitness routines after about 3 weeks. While you will probably notice an improvement immediately after surgery, final results take a few months.
The results of male breast reduction are typically long lasting so long as you maintain a stable weight and refrain from substances that are known to cause gynecomastia. We cannot stress enough how life-enhancing this surgery can be for men who suffer from gynecomastia. Our patients typically experience a boost in confidence that leads to greater satisfaction in many aspects of their social and professional lives.
Does Gynecomastia treatment involve any overnight stays?
You will be free to leave the clinic directly after your treatment.
Is a chest compression garment required during recovery?
You will be provided with a chest compression garment to wear for 6 weeks post procedure.
