Areola Reduction

The areola is the pigmented skin that surrounds your nipples. If you feel that this area is too large and is negatively impacting your confidence and body image, you may be a candidate for Areola Reduction Surgery. The procedure usually aims to make the areola between the normal range of 3.5 – 4.5cm, however, if you have a view about how the size you would like your areola to be, then you can certainly be involved in the decision.

Areola Reduction at a Glance

Procedure Time:
45 Minutes

Return to Work:
5-7 days

Full Recovery:
2 Weeks

Price:
£2500 (Fixed)

What to expect at the time of your surgery:

The pigmented part of the areola is removed in a circular fashion during areola reduction surgery. The skin around it is then pulled inward like a purse string to encircle the areola. The diameter is decreased by using absorbable threads inside the areola. You may need to wear a special bra to support your breasts in place while they heal, and your wound will be covered in dressings.

Preparing for your surgery:

  • Smoking should be stopped several weeks before your operation
  • Maintaining a healthy weight can help patients avoid further complications
  • Regular exercise can also help (but make sure you consult your GP first)
  • There should be no shaving or waxing of the area to be cut in the week leading up to the operation
  • Having a bath or shower on the day of the operation is a good idea.

Areola reduction Recovery:

You will be reviewed and looked after until the wound is completely healed. Scars should fade and flatten anywhere from three months to one year after surgery. The results shall be long-lasting, provided that you maintain a stable weight and general fitness.

Areola Reduction FAQ

Who is a good candidate for an Areola Reduction?2023-04-05T17:33:48+01:00

This operation is requested by patients who have prominent areolas, which are the darkly pigmented skin ring around the nipple that stands out from the surrounding lighter breast skin. Based on your goals, medical history, and physical examination results, our doctors will decide at your consultation whether you are a candidate.

How is an Areola Reduction different from Breast Lift?2023-04-05T17:44:26+01:00

Breast Lift lifts the breast, but an Areola Reduction primarily aims to diminish the size of the areola. While one method can, to some extent, do what the other does, this is where most people become confused. Areola reduction is frequently a part of breast lifts. Furthermore, areola reduction might somewhat elevate the breasts (varies from person to person).

Can Areola Reduction affect my ability to breast feed?2023-04-05T17:49:31+01:00

No. The breast ducts that are situated in the nipple are not eliminated after an areola reduction. Also, it’s crucial to keep in mind that some women, regardless of whether they’ve had a breast operation, are unable to breastfeed.

What type of Anaesthesia is used?2023-04-05T17:54:02+01:00

Most of our procedures are performed under local anaesthesia.
