Nose Reshaping
(Rhinoplasty)

A nose job, or rhinoplasty as it is officially known, is surgery done on the nose to alter its appearance or enhance its functionality. Nose jobs can be performed for cosmetic or medicinal purposes. For instance, surgery may be necessary for some people to fix a problem with the cartilage that separates one nostril from the other. Others might just wish to alter the size or form of their nose.

About Nose Reshaping Surgery

The procedure of rhinoplasty (sometimes known as a “nose job”) modifies the nose’s shape. The purpose of rhinoplasty may be to alter the nose’s appearance, enhance breathing, or both.

The structure of the nose is composed primarily of cartilage at the bottom and bone at the top. Bone, cartilage, skin, or all three might be changed during rhinoplasty. Discuss the benefits of rhinoplasty and whether it is right for you with your surgeon.

Your surgeon will consider your other facial characteristics, the skin on your nose, and the changes you want to make while planning a rhinoplasty. Your surgeon will create a unique strategy for you if you are a candidate for surgery.

What to expect during your consultation:

Your rhinoplasty doctor will inquire about your surgical goals during your complimentary consultation for a nose job. With no pressure to proceed, you can talk about every aspect of the process, including the many types of nose jobs, the advantages of surgery, and any potential risks associated with rhinoplasty. Our doctors are extremely knowledgeable and will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

There are various forms of nose surgery that address various issues. The surgeries covered here include nose contouring, nose reduction surgery, nose straightening surgery, and nose tip surgery. Your surgeon will go over the best procedure for you as well as the outcomes you can reasonably anticipate. They will then direct you to a clinic nurse who will carry out certain pre-operative testing and procedures if you decide to go ahead and schedule your nose surgery in one of our UK clinics.

What to expect at the time of your surgery:

Your surgeon will visit with you on the day of the procedure so you can review the permission form, ask any last-minute questions, and have your nose marked in preparation for the planned incisions. Before entering the operating room, the rest of your surgical team will be presented to you.

The sort of surgery you get will determine the procedure you go through. For instance, some of the cartilage and bone will be removed if your nose is being reduced (nose reduction). By using cartilage and bone from other places (such as your ears and hips) to build up the nose (a procedure known as “grafting”), your surgeon can enlarge your nose (nose augmentation). Typically, the treatment entails either making a small incision inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty), or a cut across the skin between the nostrils (open rhinoplasty).

During your surgical consultation, your surgeon can provide more information about the various other types of nose surgery techniques that are available.

Rhinoplasty Recovery:

We’ll be here to support you through your rapid and secure recovery from rhinoplasty. Before releasing you, your doctor will make sure you have fully healed from the actual procedure. You’ll need to make sure you have plans in place to get home because you won’t feel well and won’t be able to drive.

You may get bruising around the eyes as well as swelling and bruising around your nose after rhinoplasty. When you are recovering after a nose job, we will give you pain medication to ease any discomfort. At first, there may be dressings in each nostril that will restrict you from breathing through your nose, but before you leave, we’ll remove them. Additionally, you could wear a splint over your nose to support it. Your surgeon will inform you of the duration of this, which is typically one week.

Rhinoplasty Aftercare:

We are here to support you since we think that the best aftercare is equally vital to the operation itself. Your nurse will offer you tips on how to care for your nose before you leave, and schedule your post-operative appointment for about a week later (or as directed by your surgeon). At this time, we’ll take off your splint and, if necessary, any external sutures. Not all rhinoplasty procedures require the removal of sutures. Whether an open or closed technique was employed during your surgery will determine this.

Please don’t be startled by your immediate post-op appearance. The recovery period for nose jobs varies from patient to patient, but it will take at least two weeks for the bruising to start to recede and several months for your nose to settle into its new form. Many of our patients elect to schedule a leave of absence from work during this time.

After your nose surgery, you can call our  Aftercare if you have any queries or concerns. All patients undergoing cosmetic surgery have access to our aftercare programme for their peace of mind.

Nose Reshaping FAQ

How much time will I need to take off work?2022-11-03T16:02:28+00:00

Many of our patients decide to schedule between a week and a fortnight off from work because it can take up to two weeks for the bruising and swelling to subside after their nose surgery. The physical demands of your profession will determine this, though, and your doctor can go into further information about that.

How long does Nose Surgery take?2022-11-03T16:19:51+00:00

The duration of a rhinoplasty surgery varies according to the method you select, therefore there is no straightforward answer to this question. However, general anaesthesia rhinoplasty surgery typically takes two hours. You should allow a full 24 hours for the process because you will likely need to spend the night in the hospital after the procedure.

How long will it take to recover after Nose Surgery?2022-11-03T16:20:54+00:00

Recovery times following rhinoplasty vary from person to person. Dissolvable stitches will be used to close any incisions, and they will fall out on their own in about a week. After surgery, it will take at least two weeks for the bruising to go away and several months for your nose to adapt to its new form. To ensure a speedy recovery following rhinoplasty, we will inform you of what to do and what not to do before you leave the hospital. To ensure that your recovery from a nose job is progressing well and that you are happy with the results, you will also have several post-operative sessions.

Will there be any scarring after Nose Surgery?2022-11-03T16:22:44+00:00

You won’t notice any scars because most rhinoplasty incisions are made inside the nostrils. However, for some procedures, known as “open rhinoplasty,” your surgeon may create an incision in the skin in the space between your nostrils. Additionally, you could need extremely minor incisions that leave very faint scars on either side of your nose. Your surgeon will thoroughly describe the sort of nose surgery you will receive and any anticipated scarring so that you are aware of what to anticipate.

Am I suitable for Nose Surgery?2022-11-03T16:24:22+00:00

Most people are candidates for nose surgery, but before we proceed with your procedure, we’ll collect a detailed medical history and if necessary, perform a pre-op exam to make sure you’re in good physical condition.

Can Nose Surgery help with breathing difficulties?2022-11-03T16:25:32+00:00

It can, really. Your surgeon will discuss your problems with you and perform an examination to see how they may help.

Are there any risks?2022-11-03T16:26:14+00:00

There are risks associated with the operation, as there are with any surgical procedure, but we will fully disclose these to you so you may feel as comfortable and at ease as possible before moving forward.
